In 2009 a federal judge found that publicly naming it as an “unindicted co-conspirator” violated its Fifth Amendment rights, while also finding evidence of its past association with the defendants. The Iran war

Six chances to make the President ask Congress. He voted no six times.

On Feb 28, 2026, the United States and Israel launched strikes on Iran. Congress never voted to authorize the war. The House has voted six times on resolutions directing the President to stop or seek Congress’s approval. Keith Self, whose signature issue is the national debt, voted no every time, and voted yes on the budget plan to fund the war.

Twice, it failed by a single vote. On April 16 (213–214) and May 14 (212–212), one more yes, such as his, would have passed the resolution.

“They are going to hide behind this freedom-of-religion curtain. Who is going to have the courage to call them out?”

dailysignal.com/2026/06/23/muslim-only-cemetery-fuels-concerns-over-secrecy-rule-of-law/
The First Amendment

“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.”

Our view: religious freedom is not a curtain. It is the same protection every church, synagogue and temple in TX-03 relies on. A freedom one faith can lose is a freedom every faith can lose.

U.S. Constitution, Amendment I

A congressman has no vote on a city site plan. The law already decided this one.

What the council was deciding

Whether a site plan met McKinney’s own ordinances: parking, setbacks, drainage. Approval was ministerial. If the plan follows the code, the city must approve it.

They’re going to sue us, and they’re going to win, and they’re going to build it anyway, and we’re going to pay legal fees.

Councilman Patrick Cloutier, asked what would happen if the council voted no · Dallas Express
What the law says
  • The First Amendment protects the free exercise of religion, for every faith.
  • Federal law (RLUIPA, 2000) bars any city from using land-use rules to discriminate against a house of worship because of its religion, or to treat it on less than equal terms with other assemblies. 42 U.S.C. § 2000cc
  • The Texas Constitution (Art. I, § 6) and the Texas Religious Freedom Restoration Act protect it too.
  • Conservatives wrote these protections. RLUIPA was introduced by Republican Sen. Orrin Hatch and passed both chambers without objection in July 2000. Texas’s Religious Freedom Restoration Act was signed by Gov. George W. Bush in 1999. They exist so that no city council can zone a congregation out of town, whether it is a church, a synagogue or a mosque. Congress.gov S. 2869 (106th) · Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code ch. 110
What happens when cities say no anyway
  • Bernards Township, New Jersey denied a mosque. The Justice Department sued. The township paid $3.25 million, and the mosque was built. U.S. Department of Justice, 2017
  • Sterling Heights, Michigan denied a mosque. The Justice Department sued. The city settled and allowed it. U.S. Department of Justice

McKinney followed the law and avoided that bill for its taxpayers.

What he did after the city followed the law

He told the council to honor your oath that starts with the U.S. Constitution. That Constitution is what protects this congregation. On Aug 16, in a Facebook video, he went further: I am here to sign the recall petition for the City of McKinney. The recall targets the mayor and three council members who voted to follow the law. his Facebook video, Aug 16, 2026 · Townhall, Aug 16, 2026 · WFAA (who the recall targets)

Politics has no place in a site plan, and hatred has no place in a community. A congressman who uses a zoning vote to turn neighbors against neighbors is not protecting McKinney. He is dividing it.

The double standard

He holds one faith to a test he applies to no other.

On the House floor he said, ours is a Christian-based culture. Then he judged Islam by standards that, applied evenly, would condemn every major faith. We do not think any faith should be judged this way. That is the point.

His charge against Islam
The same test, applied evenly
What he proposes
Religious law in American courts.
Jewish rabbinical courts and Christian conciliation panels issue rulings that courts from New York to Texas enforce, under the same Federal Arbitration Act rules as Islamic arbitration, and only when the result complies with U.S. law. Bills aimed only at Sharia. H.R. 5722 would bar entry to any alien who adheres to Sharia law. No other faith is named. govinfo.gov, H.R. 5722
Wanting religion as the main source of law.
12% of U.S. Muslims say their religion should be the main source of American law. So do 17% of Protestants and 17% of white evangelicals. ISPU, cited in House Judiciary testimony, Feb 10, 2026
A caucus about Muslims only.
The Quran and hadith even contain rules for slaves. His floor speech, Nov 19, 2025
The Hebrew Bible, scripture for Jews and Christians, also contains rules for slaves (Leviticus 25:44–46) and death for adultery (Leviticus 20:10). No one judges American Jews or Christians by those verses today. American Muslims deserve the same.
Judges only Muslims by their scripture.
Crimes committed by some believers.
True of people in every faith. Texas prosecutes the person who commits the crime, whatever their religion.
Opposed a whole congregation’s site plan in McKinney.

The First Amendment protects every faith equally. So should the congressman who swore an oath to it.

How a fear became a platform

A problem with no court cases became a 2026 campaign.

The “Sharia threat” did not start in TX-03. It is a 15-year-old idea that courts have already rejected. A post by a once-anonymous activist revived it in 2025, and Texas politicians carried it into an election year.

Your vote

He wants to take away your vote for U.S. Senate.

His proposal · H.J.Res. 198 · Jun 25, 2026

If senators are supposed to represent their states, then the states should choose them.

Self’s amendment would repeal the 17th Amendment. Since 1913, Texans have elected their U.S. senators directly. Under his plan, the Texas Legislature would pick them. Nine Republicans co-sponsor it. Status: referred to committee.

The Legislature that would choose · 2025

Texas redrew its congressional map in the middle of the decade, at the President’s urging, aiming for five more Republican seats.

A three-judge federal panel found “substantial evidence” that Texas racially gerrymandered the 2025 map and blocked it, 2–1. The U.S. Supreme Court reversed that ruling and allowed the map for 2026. TX-03 was redrawn too. About a quarter of its voters are new, from five rural counties.
Texas Tribune · SCOTUSblog · Ballotpedia · Cook Political Report

Put the two together. Texas legislators draw their own districts. In 2025 they redrew yours. Under his amendment, those same legislators, not Texas voters, would choose who represents Texas in the U.S. Senate.

Our view Power that picks its own voters should not also pick our senators. A representative who trusts voters lets them choose.

NewsNation, Oct 9, 2026 · TX3DNews, Feb 3, 2026 · House Roll Call 53, Feb 3, 2026 (H.R. 7148). His stated reason for the NO: “The Senate did violence to our bill.” In fairness: in March 2025 his office reported death threats and postponed a Greenville event, and on Oct 21, 2026 the FBI said it had stopped an alleged plot to kill him. Safety concerns are real. Telephone town halls and a debate are still possible.

His own money

Does he trade stocks? A little. Does he back a ban? Yes.

We read every financial disclosure he has filed with the House Clerk. The honest summary: his trades are small and were reported on time, his wealth grew mostly with the stock and gold markets, and on banning stock trading by members of Congress he has been on the right side. We found no evidence of insider trading.

Assets he reported (ranges)

DateLowHigh
Oct 7, 2021 before he ran$681,000$1.64M
Dec 31, 2022 days before taking office$716,000$1.69M
Dec 31, 2025 latest report$1.10M$2.49M

The House form only asks for ranges, so these are the sums of the lowest and highest values he checked. Not counted, by the form’s rules: his home and his federal (Army) retirement. No debts over $10,000 were reported in any year.

Where the growth came from: Vanguard stock funds, mostly in his spouse’s name, rose with the market (the S&P 500 gained 78% from the end of 2022 to the end of 2025). Precious metals went from $15,001–$50,000 to $250,001–$500,000. Metal prices alone don’t explain a jump that size, which suggests more metal was bought. Buying physical gold or silver is legal and is not a reported “trade.”

Not just a congressman’s salary

  • $174,000 a year as a member of Congress.
  • $48,470 in 2025 from his Texas county retirement pension (former Collin County Judge).
  • A U.S. Army retirement. Federal retirement is not reported on this form, so the amount isn’t public here.
  • About $13,000 in fund distributions in 2025.

Every stock trade since he took office

  • Jan 10, 2025, spouse’s account: bought NVIDIA, PepsiCo and Genuine Parts; sold AT&T and Merck. Each trade $1,001–$15,000. Reported Jan 23, 2025.
  • Oct 2025: sold Leidos Holdings, $1,001–$15,000. Reported Oct 14, 2025.
  • All within the 45-day legal deadline.

Banning stock trading in Congress: his record

  • Cosponsored the TRUST in Congress Act (H.R. 396), Sep 2, 2025: members and spouses would have to put individual stocks in a blind trust.
  • Cosponsored the ETHICS Act (H.R. 4890), Sep 2, 2025: the same, but diversified mutual funds and ETFs would stay allowed. That is the “index funds only” idea.
  • Cosponsored and voted for the Stop Insider Trading Act (H.R. 7008), which passed the House 232–198 on Jul 22, 2026 (Roll Call 280). It bans new stock purchases by members and spouses and requires public notice before a sale. The Senate did not advance it on Sep 30, 2026.
  • Critics’ caveat: H.R. 7008 lets members keep the stocks they already own and does not cover the President. Most House Democrats voted no; critics such as the Campaign Legal Center said it would not actually ban lawmakers from trading stocks.

Our view: credit where it’s due. On this issue he has voted the way most Americans want. It is fair to note that his household still owns individual stocks, which the bills he cosponsored would have required to be put in a blind trust.

You pay for his office. Here is what it went to.

No one can put a precise price on a campaign of fear. What we can do is show what is on the public record, say plainly what is not, and ask for the rest. We do not claim any share of his budget was spent illegally. Official offices may not be used for campaigning; we found no finding that his was.

Questions for Keith Self

Is a third term worth dividing his own district?

We are not claiming to know why he is running. We are asking whether any seat is worth what this campaign has cost his neighbors, and what the seat has delivered for them.

What a third term means for him

Members of Congress become eligible for a federal pension at 62 with five years of service. Military service does not count toward that five years. His House service began Jan 3, 2023, so it reaches five years in January 2028, which only happens with a third term.

Under the formula the Congressional Research Service describes, five years at today’s $174,000 salary comes to about $14,800 a year for life (our estimate).

His campaign website has no section on health care, wages, the cost of living or the national debt. It describes his work as fighting to advance President Trump’s America First agenda, under a banner reading Endorsed by President Donald J. Trump. keithself.com, Oct 21, 2026

  1. Is a pension, or a third term, worth telling the country that some of your own constituents have no respect for U.S. law?
  2. Is that what a good Texan does: win a seat by making neighbors afraid of each other?
  3. Couldn’t he win the honorable way, with bills that lower costs, raise wages, or make health care affordable?
  4. With the debt at $40 trillion and still climbing, why did the congressman whose signature issue is the debt vote for a law that adds $3.4 trillion more?
  5. Who does he work for: the people of TX-03, or the endorsement on his banner?
If you usually vote Republican

Hold him to his own standards. He doesn’t meet them.

You don’t have to change your party, or agree with Evan Hunt on everything, to see this. Here are five conservative principles, and Keith Self’s own record on each.

Balanced budgets

He calls the debt an existential threat to our Republic and said the bill had to match every $1 of tax cuts with $1 of spending cuts.

Then he voted for the law that CBO says adds $3.4 trillion to deficits.

He voted no six times on giving Congress its say on the Iran war, while gas went from $2.91 to $4.28.

U.S. Const. art. I, § 8 · House Clerk · EIA

Religious liberty and property rights

The laws that protect every church from hostile zoning were written by Orrin Hatch and signed in Texas by George W. Bush.

He urged McKinney to reject a plan that met every city rule, and called religious freedom a curtain.

Local control

Cities decide site plans. A congressman has no vote on them.

After the council voted 7–0 to follow the law, he signed a petition to recall local officials and compared McKinney’s former mayor to Vladimir Putin.

Am I in TX-03?

The district lines changed for 2026. Check your address.

TX-03 now covers part of Collin County and part of Hunt County, plus Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Morris and Titus counties. Many voters are new to the district, and some who voted in it before are now in another one.

Your address is sent only to the U.S. Census Bureau’s free address lookup to find its location (OpenStreetMap is the backup). This site does not store it. The answer uses the official census-block list for the map the Legislature enacted in 2025 (Texas Legislative Council plan C2333), the same list that legally defines the district. For the official answer, check your voter registration on the Texas Secretary of State’s site.

Collin locations and wait times

Hunt, Hopkins, Delta, Franklin, Morris and Titus counties set their own hours and locations. See the county list below.

2 · Vote on Election Day

Tuesday, Nov 3, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you can vote.

In Collin County, any vote center works. In other counties, check where your county sends you.

If you can’t enter the building, ask for curbside voting.

If your name isn’t on the list, ask for a provisional ballot. Don’t leave without voting.

3 · Vote by mail, if eligible

In Texas you can vote by mail if you are 65 or older, sick or disabled, out of your county for all of early voting and Election Day, expecting to give birth within three weeks of Election Day, or confined in jail but eligible to vote.

Your application must be received by your county by Fri, Oct 23. Write your Texas driver’s license, ID or EIC number, or the last four digits of your Social Security number, on both the application and the ballot envelope.

How to help

Money buys ads. It can’t buy a neighbor you trust.

Our view: too much of our politics now runs on PAC money. Through Sep 30, 2026, PACs gave his campaign $218,423. You don’t have to match it. An honest conversation with someone who trusts you does something an ad can’t. This site has no budget; it only works if people pass it on.

6,044 hoursis what $218,423, the PAC money in his campaign, would buy at that rate: about 600 neighbors giving 10 hours each. A way to picture the scale, not a claim that hours and dollars work the same.FEC filings · Independent Sector

Eight ways to help, from 1 minute to 1 afternoon

  1. Share it online. Free, and no limits: posting, texting and emailing are not campaign spending under federal rules. Use the buttons below.
  2. Talk to three people in TX-03. A coworker, a neighbor, someone from your congregation or your kids’ school. Share one fact, not ten. Be kind; people change their minds when they feel respected.
  3. Open the 60-second story together. It works on any phone, for any age. Start it.
  4. Print and hand out. Use the library below. Hand them to people you know, or leave a stack on a community board where it’s allowed.
  5. Have a printer? Use it. Print a stack for your street, your break room or your community center, with permission. We don’t accept equipment or money (see why below), so the best gift is your own printer and an hour.
  6. Write a letter to the editor. 150 to 200 words, one fact, with its source. Local papers print letters from residents.
  7. Share an idea. Found a way to reach people that works? Send it. Good ideas get added here for everyone.
  8. Share your experience. A conversation, a town hall, a reply from his office. Tell us.

Stay legal: the $250 rule, in plain English

  • Your time is free. Volunteering your own time is not a campaign contribution.
  • Online is free. Sharing, posting, emailing or running a website, unpaid, has no limit and no reporting (FEC rule 11 CFR 100.94).
  • Spending your own money? If you pay for material that tells people to vote for or against a candidate, and your total for the year goes over $250, you must file a short report with the FEC (Form 5). In the last 20 days before Election Day, every $1,000 or more must be reported within 24 hours.
  • Anything that says “vote for” or “vote against” must carry a notice: “Paid for by [your name and your street address, phone number or website]. Not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”
  • Our printables are written to inform, with sources, not to tell anyone how to vote. Federal rules can still look at context, so if you pay to print copies in quantity, the safe choice is to keep your total under $250 for the year, or add a “Paid for by” line and report.
  • Never put flyers in mailboxes (federal law). Stay 100 feet from polling-place entrances while voting is open (Texas Election Code § 61.003). Ask before posting on private property.
  • Why we don’t take money or equipment: this is one person’s project, with no donors to disclose. Everyone who helps does it on their own.

General information, not legal advice. Official guidance: FEC: making independent expenditures.

Questions people ask

Keith Self: quick answers, with sources.

  • Does Keith Self trade stocks? A little. Since taking office, his disclosures list six trades, each $1,001–$15,000: five in his spouse’s account on Jan 10, 2025 (bought NVIDIA, PepsiCo and Genuine Parts; sold AT&T and Merck) and a sale of Leidos Holdings in Oct 2025. All were reported on time. We found no evidence of insider trading. disclosures-clerk.house.gov
  • Does Keith Self support banning stock trading by members of Congress? Yes. It bans new stock purchases by members and spouses; critics note it lets members keep stocks they already own. congress.gov · clerk.house.gov/Votes/2026280
  • What is Keith Self’s net worth? The House form reports ranges, not exact values. His reported assets were $716,000 to $1.69 million at the end of 2022 and $1.10 million to $2.49 million at the end of 2025, with no debts over $10,000. That excludes his home and his federal (Army) retirement. Besides his $174,000 salary, he received a $48,470 county pension in 2025. House Clerk financial disclosures, 2022 and 2025 annual reports
  • Did Keith Self vote for the One Big Beautiful Bill? Yes. July 3, 2025, Roll Call 190, passed 218–214. Weeks earlier he called the Senate version “morally and fiscally bankrupt.” CBO: +$3.4 trillion in deficits, 2025–2034. clerk.house.gov/evs/2025/roll190.xml

  • Is my address in TX-03? The lines changed for 2026. TX-03 now includes part of Collin and Hunt counties plus Delta, Franklin, Hopkins, Morris and Titus. Check your address.
  • Does Keith Self want to end the popular election of senators? His H.J.Res. 198 (Jun 25, 2026) would repeal the 17th Amendment so the Texas Legislature, not voters, picks U.S. senators. keithself.house.gov
  • How did Keith Self vote on the Iran war? Six House votes in 2026 on resolutions directing the President to stop hostilities with Iran or seek Congress’s approval: he voted no on all six. Every claim on this site links to a primary source where one exists: his own House website, Congress.gov, the House Clerk’s roll-call records, the Congressional Budget Office, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, FEC filings, and court opinions. Where we rely on a news report, we say which one. If you find an error, report it with the form or email hello@keithselfrecord.com, and we will correct it publicly in the corrections log.

  • What we will not do. We will not publish accusations we could not verify. We looked for ethics or FEC violations and found none. He asked for his own pay to be withheld during the 2025 shutdown. His missed-vote rate is better than average. You will not see those attacks here, because they would be false.

My story · in my own words

Almost six years ago, I came to America the legal way: years of paperwork, interviews and waiting. For a while the door was closed to me completely. A travel ban kept out people born in my country, millions of us, without asking who we were or what we had done. When it was lifted in January 2021, I came.

I chose Texas. My family and I built a life here. I work in a field where people with my skills are hard to find, I pay my taxes, and my neighbors are the kind who bring food when someone is sick. For the first time in a long time, I felt safe.

Then I heard my own congressman say on national television that people of my faith have no respect for U.S. law. Not one person. Not one crime. All of us. I watched him warn a city council in our district about honor killings to stop a place of worship that met every rule. And I watched strangers repeat his words, louder.

I have seen this before. In the country I come from, it did not start with violence. It started with words: leaders describing a whole group of neighbors as a danger, because fear was easier to sell than results. People believed it. Then they acted on it.

The world has seen it too. In Myanmar, hateful posts about the Rohingya, a Muslim minority, spread unchecked on social media. United Nations investigators said social media played a determining role in the crisis, in which more than 700,000 Rohingya fled their homes.

I am not saying Texas is Myanmar. Texas is my home, and my neighbors have been good to me. I am saying I know where this road can lead, and it is easiest to turn back at the beginning.

So I decided not to stay silent and watch. I did the one thing I know how to do: I collected his own words and his own votes, checked every one against the record, and put the sources next to each one, so you never have to take my word for anything. Where the record is in his favor, I said so. I did not invent anything, and I did not attack anyone’s faith, including his.

No one paid for this. No PAC, party or campaign asked for it, funds it, or approves it. If you find a mistake, tell me through the form above or at hello@keithselfrecord.com, and I will fix it publicly.

I don’t share my name, because my family’s safety matters more than credit. But I am real, I live in TX-03, and I am one of the people he was talking about. We can disagree about taxes, the border and the budget, and still be neighbors. What we cannot do is let anyone win an election by turning us against each other.

How this site is made, and checked

Built with help from AI. AI tools helped write the code, read long documents (FEC filings, House disclosure forms, transcripts) and draft text. AI can make mistakes, including stating things that aren’t true. That is why nothing here rests on AI’s word.

  • Every claim has a source you can open: House Clerk roll calls, FEC filings, Congress.gov, CBO, his own website and interviews.
  • Quotes are checked word for word against the recording, transcript or post. Where we have only one source, we say so.
  • What helps him is included too, like his votes to release the Epstein files and to ban new stock purchases by members of Congress.
  • Numbers are recomputed from the raw records, not copied from news stories. Several figures were corrected that way before launch.

We know of no false claim on this site. If you find one, report it. It will be checked against the record, fixed if we got it wrong, and listed below.
